Development in the Town of Kensington is
guided by the Kensington and Vicinity Sector
Plan, last updated in 1990.  Currently, a new
Draft Kensington Sector Plan is being revised
by the Planning Department of the Maryland
National Capital Parks and Planning
Commission (MNCPPC). Their
recommendations are now being reviewed by
the Montgomery County Council, the elected
legislative body that will discuss the Planners
recommendations, conduct public work
sessions, and approve or modify the draft.

The Planning Board Draft is the result of
more than two years of gathering information
and comments from the Town of Kensington,
property owners within the Town, residents,
and other stakeholders in and around
Kensington who will be affected by
recommendations for future redevelopment
and changes to the Kensington of 2012.
Many community outreach meetings,
Planning Board work sessions, and
presentations to individual groups have
occurred.

The Kensington Town Council has approved
the Draft Sector Plan submitted by the
Planning Board. The County Council
Planning, Housing, and Economic
Development (PHED) Committee is now
reviewing this Draft in great detail. The three
member PHED Committee has approved
many of the recommendations
