and townships founded to enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods and community.

Representatives to CKC are appointed by their respective neighborhood organizations.  It is the responsibility of each
CKC representative to report back to her/his neighborhood and also to represent the positions of her/his
neighborhood to the CKC.  We accomplish this two-way communication through the ListServ and via emailing.

The CKC meets once every 2 months, in the odd-numbered months, on the third Monday of the month, usually from 7:
30 to 9:30.  Chairing CKC meetings is a responsibility that is rotated among our member organizations. A Host
member will prepare a draft agenda, solicit content and issue topics from members, verify meeting location and other
logistical issues. In addition, the Host will invite topic appropriate guest speakers, and provide copies of or online
linkages to relevant documents on agenda issues.

The Office of President of CKC rotates every two months - the Host member becomes acting president for the two
months between the meeting prior to their hosting and one month after hosted meeting, when the host of the next
meeting assumes presidential responsibilities.

The CKC does not have a dues structure.  When expenses arise, member organizations "chip in” to cover the costs.
Fees for meeting room use and the expense of refreshments at meetings are the financial responsibility of the hosting
organization.

Activities

In addition to bi-monthly meetings and online discussions, CKC members frequently participate on county sponsored
panels and forums on topics related to quality of life issues in our communities. Members also testify before the
County Council and/or the Planning Board when agenda items concern legislative initiatives or development proposals
impacting our communities.

Recent efforts have focused on the County Growth Policy, the Master Plan Process, BRAC proposals for The Naval
Medical Center, policies and procedures at the Parks and Planning Department.

A revision of the 1989 Kensington Sector Plan will soon begin
.
